Despite living in Washington, D.C. for nearly four years, I took rather few photos while I was there. It's hard to pinpoint a reason why: it's probably, at least in part, because I was so focused on my work.
In fact, I probably had more of a creative spark while I interned here during the summer of 2019 than I had in all my years of living here full-time.

But it's also true that the city took a long time to grow on me. And getting to know its Metro system was one of the reasons I came around. Reading Zachary Schrag's "The Great Society Subway"—and having the chance to check out the Silver Line Extension to Dulles and the Potomac Yard station on their respective opening days—helped me see DC in a new light. Metro is an political, economic, and engineering marvel in its own right, and it makes DC the special city that it is.
